  The TRUE Prosperity Pointe Marina

As a tenant of over four and a half years, these are some observations that I have seen during my stay at Prosperity Point Marina. The docks are in bad shape. Most of the electric pedestals for shore power do not work or are in disrepair. Boat owners need to drag extention cords across the docks to other working outlets presenting trip hazards. Several people have tripped on uneven docks or power cords causing physical injuries requiring medical treatment. The owners have been very slow to repair any item and some issues have been going on for an extended period of time. The seawall is in a bad state of disrepair with bolts coming loose and nuts falling out. Some of the floating docks are coming apart at joining sections with connecting rods coming out causing the dock to buckle at points. Several boats have sunk leaking oil and fuel into the water with no containment booms being put into place allowing the contaminants to foul the Caloosahatchie River and all the fish and wildlife in the water. As far as I know , the proper authorities were not contacted to deal with the issue when they happened. Several derelict boats are roach and rat infested which have caused other boat owners problems. The large fenced in storage yard has a light that does not always work. The perimeter fence is pushed down allowing people to come and go as they please. Some stored boats have been robbed--including ours. As far as stating that the marina is a safe, family oriented place is misguided...the marina is in a area of North Fort Myers that is crime ridden with prostitutes, drugs, burglaries, etc. The owner rents out unregistered boats to sometimes less than reputable people including a registered sex offender and other known criminals. There are no handicap facilities at the marina except for two handicap parking places . Boat owners struggle to bring aboard supplies with no handicap ramp and have to negotiate steps with wagons and shopping carts to bring in groceries/supplies. The owner states that the business was grand-fathered in and does not have to have handicap facilities. To me this states the owners do not wish for disabled people to visit or live at their establishment without undue hardships. If you're a fisher, you're out of luck. You cannot fish or cast net from the docks and the bait store first opens at 9 AM weekdays..
